Shop It: Maiden Noir at Totokaelo
Seattle-designed menswear shows up at Totokaelo on November 16; stays through December 2.
News of a local designer showing menswear at Totokaelo is notable and exciting for at least two reasons.
1. Guys whose female friends and partners shop the Capitol Hill hotspot have long been waiting for owner Jill Wenger to bring them into the fold. When she upgraded from her Western Ave space to the current one, she told us menswear would debut in 2013. Consider this a preview of what's to come.
2. Yeah, we said locally designed. While shops that specialize in independent designers are their own brand of very special, I love seeing retailers add Seattleites to a global mix.
Beginning with an opening celebration on Friday, November 16 from 6 to 8, Maiden Noir's Nin Truong will have his earthy, urban camo prints, leather-sleeved baller jackets, and modern-cut jackets and slouch slacks sharing space with Wenger's selections of Rick Owens, Rachel Comey, and Margiela.
To RSVP for the occassion—which will feature wines from Sapere Aude, the designer himself along with his Seattle and Tokyo teams, and an exclusive opportunity to shop the collection before it's available online—email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Otherwise, stop by the shop before December 2 to check out the locally conceptualized history-rich brand with a global reach.
